Who owns and operates the Jewel’s Clothing Stores? 

The stores are owned and operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County. Each store has a store manager and volunteer staff.

What can I donate?

All clean and scent-free gently used or new;
-clothing for women, men, youth
-Footwear
-Jewelry
-Accessories: purses, bags, belts & ties
-Books, CD’s, DVD’s and puzzles from the last ten years

Can I donate, housewares or furniture?

No thank you! Jewels Gently Used clothing does not accept housewares, furniture, crafts, linens, art or trinkets due to space limitations

Where does the money generated from my donation go?

100% of the proceeds from our Jewel’s Gently Used Clothing stores go directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County to provide funding for matching and programs for children and youth right in the county. 

 

Volunteer Jewels How do I become a volunteer?

Do you have some spare time that you are willing to donate? Do you need a reason to get out of the house and socialize a little bit? Retired? Stay at Home Mom? Student needing hours? The hours are fairly flexible, and some volunteers only work a couple of hours a week – no problem. Call to speak to the store manager or come in to pick up the application. Volunteers are required to vulnerable sector checks with your local police station. 

 

What duties do the volunteers do?

  • Sort, steam, hang clothing, organize racks.
  • Operate the cash
  • Create eye-catching displays
  • Work in Perth or Smiths Falls location.
  • Work flexible hours.

Volunteers get a 50% discount in-store. 

 

How can I donate items?

Call either store to arrange a drop-off time. Since clothing has to be isolated for 48 hrs and our space is limited, please book a drop-off time. 

 

Does Jewel’s only sell used items?

Jewel’s sells gently-used clothing, and other items generously donated by the public. We have also received donations of brand new clothing and shoes from local businesses. 

 

What is Jewel’s exchange policy?

All sales are final.

 

How do you determine the price of an item?

Our pricing standards take into account factors such as quality and condition, seasonality, brand name, uniqueness, and rarity.  

 

What happens to clothing that doesn’t sell?

Clothing that is not sold in store is sold by the pound to a local clothing recycling company.

 

What are the Frequent Buyer Cards?

Spend $10 and get an initial (stamp) Full card of 10 spaces = $5 off any purchase.

Silent Auction and Bag Sales do you qualify for a stamp or discount. Only redeem one card per purchase. 

 

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes, they are available in any denomination. They can also hold a balance.
