Larocque Masonry and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County are partnering to provide students in local schools with an opportunity to learn basic guitar skills.
Who are the Mentees?
The mentees will be grade 7 and 8 students that have an interest in learning basic guitar and other instrumental skills as available. These students will be identified by the schools as children that may not otherwise have a similar opportunity provided to them by their parent or guardian.
Who are the Mentors?
The mentors are local musicians screened by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County with a keen interest in sharing their skill with children, helping their community and being a responsible mentor to a child in need. The mentor to mentee ratio will be a maximum of 1-4 at all times.
What is the cost?
There will be no cost to Schools or Mentees. All costs will be absorbed by Larocque Masonry through fundraising and sponsorship.
What if the Mentees do not have guitars?
Larocque Masonry again through fundraising and sponsorship initiatives will provide all instruments needed. After each program, the instruments used will be donated to the school for ongoing use by the participants on a sign out basis. Larocque Masonry will fundraise only in accordance with BBBS Lanark County’s 3rd Party Fundraising agreement. All instruments obtained by the program will remain property of Larocque Masonry once the program ends. Larocque Masonry will distribute the instruments in the community as they see fit.
What is Larocque Masonry’s role?
Larocque Masonry will be responsible for supplying musical instruments and all other materials that are needed to teach/mentor guitar lessons. Larocque Masonry will also recruit appropriate mentors/teachers to help implement the program.
What is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County’s role?
