Shop locally at Jewels Gently Used Clothing on October 13th and support your United Way. All proceeds from both the Perth and Smiths Falls locations will be donation to the 2011 United Way Campaign.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County operates the stores as a way to raise funds for the agency programs. The Smiths Falls store has been operating since 2004 and the agency opened the Perth store in 2010. Each store has a part time manager and is run mostly by volunteers. The agency is proud to be a United Way agency member and is excited to be able to help out with the local United Way campaign in this way. Their annual United Way funding helps the small agency fund mentoring programs throughout Lanark County. Their programs include Traditional One on One mentoring, In School Mentoring, Co-Op In School Mentoring, Go Girls! Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds, Game On!, JAMM Music Mentoring, Clowning Around, and many others – all based on the concept of mentoring. The stores promise to have great specials, and as always, you will be able to find lots of treasures. For years the United Way of Lanark County has been serving individuals in need in our community by providing funding to member agencies and the 45+ services and programs they run. Thousands of local people benefit from the United Way and their member agencies each year. This year the United Way has set a campaign goal of $400,000.00. This number represents the change that the United Way is moving towards. It is their hope that through this goal, more dollars will go back into the community for people who need help.
