Mapleview will be buzzing on May 30th when Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County hosts its annual Golf for Kids tournament. The event, which generates a sold out crowd of 144 golfers, raises funds that directly support mentoring programs the agency offers in Lanark County.

Registration is $70 per golfer and includes a BBQ lunch and continental breakfast. The tournament is a scramble style and tee off time is 9am this year, ending at about 3pm. It is always a fun filled day with prizes, games, and a silent auction. Space is limited, so be sure to register early.

Another way to help the agency raise funds is through a hole sponsorship. These are available for $100, and forms are available on the agency website or by calling the office.

Many businesses in LanarkCounty supported the event through hole sponsorship, prize and silent auction donations, or putting in teams. “Without local businesses supporting our events, we couldn’t continue with our programming.” says Jennifer Miller, Executive Director for the agency “The whole community rallies behind us, and we truly appreciate the support we receive, whether its for our Golf day, Bowl for Kids, our curling or our dart events. Every dollar raised makes a difference, and it is appreciated.”

The agency covers all of LanarkCounty and is currently serving 110 children through various mentoring programs in Carleton Place, Almonte, Perth, SmithsFalls, Lanark and surrounding communities. As a not for profit organization, the agency does not receive any sustainable government funding, so relies on the support of volunteers, their thrift store, the United Way, and various grants to operate their popular and valuable mentoring programs.

This annual event is a significant fundraiser for the agency and aids in providing mentoring to children in need in LanarkCounty. There is always a waiting list of children seeking mentors so new volunteers are always welcome.
