Manhattan Bar and Grill on Russell Street East will be hosting a fund raising BBQ for Big Brothers Big Sisters on May 23rd at noon in front of their restaurant. “It’s a great chance to bring awareness of this great agency while having some fun and enjoying lunch out on a Friday” says Peter Kosmos, owner of the Manhattan restaurant.
Big Brothers Big Sisters programs cover all of Lanark County, and currently serve 88 children in Carleton Place, Almonte, Perth, Smiths Falls, Lanark and surrounding communities. The agency does not receive any sustainable government funding of any type, so relies on community donations, the United Way, their store, and various grants to operate their popular programs. There is always a waiting list of children seeking volunteer mentors, so new volunteer are always welcome.
The agency has recently purchased its own space, and after renting for 35 years, the staff and volunteers are eager to move. The move takes place on May 25th. “The timing for this BBQ is great,” says Jennifer Miller, Executive Director for the agency, “ We will be packing up for our move, so will be ready for a break at lunch time. We’re hoping the community comes out and enjoys this BBQ, and we appreciate Manhattan’s efforts to support us financially.”
