July 20, 2009
A huge celebration took place in June as a local store celebrated 5 years in business.

Jewels Gently Used Clothing on William Street operates as a fundraising entity for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County. The store has been operating since 2004 and is run mostly by volunteers. Over 20 ladies work different shifts to operate the store, under the guidance of Sandra Walker, the part time Store Manager.

The store boasted many specials, and customers enjoyed extra savings by drawing ballots! Refreshments were served all day, and a cake cutting ceremony was held at 5pm. Jewel Purdon, the board member who came up with the thrift store idea, was on hand to cut the cake.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark Count provides a variety of mentoring programs to over 120 children throughout the County. The agency has been in operation for 35 years, and does not receive government funding. To provide their programs and services, the agency hosts fundraisers, operates Jewels, and is a proud United Way agency member.
