Saturday, January 23 marked the beginning of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County’s first environmental group. Dubbed the ‘Green Group’ staff member Alyssa and volunteer Fran Widmer will be meeting with a group of six to seven youth every second Saturday afternoon.

Together we will explore various environmental issues and initiatives. Past activities have included an environmental board game, the creation of an ‘Office Mascot’ using recycled materials, bowling in Perth and Smiths Falls as part of the 30^th Annual Bowl for Kids, and the beginnings of personal gardens. Upcoming projects and focus areas may include composting, making paper, and a pedestrian safety scavenger hunt.
