Nationally September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, a month used by local agencies to celebrate, recognize, and promote the great work they do. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County has some great things in store, but is kicking it all off with the support of Dan Andress of Andress’ Independent Grocer.
Running from Saturday, September 4 until Saturday, September 11, Mr. Andress and his employees will be asking customers for a $2 donation in support of the agency.
All proceeds from the donations will return to the agency in support of their mentoring programs. The agency is currently serving over 200 children across Lanark County through one-one-one and group mentoring programs. The agency does not receive any sustainable government funding, so relies on community donations, the United Way, their gently used clothing stores in Perth and Smiths Falls (Jewel’s Gently Used Clothing), and various grants to operate their popular programs.
The agency currently has a waiting list for service, so new volunteers are always welcome.
